Critical thinking is a fundamental skill that empowers individuals to analyze, evaluate, and interpret information. The advantages of being a critical thinker are manifold as better decision-making skills, creativity, and the ability to identify disinformation prepare individuals for the 21st century. Philosophy, on the other hand, revolves around thinking critically to discover knowledge and encourages self-reflection during this process.

  • In this course, you will learn about a renowned allegory used by the Greek Philosopher Plato in his book “The Republic” to stress the importance of thinking critically and improve your critical thinking skills with a user-friendly guide.
  • Gain a clearer understanding of what critical thinking is and its applications.
  • Detailed chapter contents can be studied as follows : Critical Thinking: Definition and Applications The Republic: The Allegory of the Cave Ways to Develop your Critical Thinking Skills.
  • Appreciate Plato’s Allegory of the Cave as a reflection of knowledge, objectivity, and truth.
  • Apply ways to improve your own critical thinking at school and at work.

Course Content

CHAPTER 1: CRITICAL THINKING: DEFINITION AND APPLICATIONS
In this chapter, students will learn about what critical thinking is and how it can be applied to diverse situations in everyday life.

CHAPTER 2: THE REPUBLIC: THE ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE
In this chapter, students will learn about the Greek Philosopher Plato’s well-known Allegory of the Cave and its relevance to creating critical thinkers in modern-day society.

CHAPTER 3: WAYS TO DEVELOP YOUR CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
In this chapter, students will learn about how they can develop their critical thinking.
