Strength in Struggles


Life isn’t always so easy and going according to plan. Especially when a person is a high achiever or a perfectionist. There will always be a time when things don’t go as planned especially when it comes to youths or young people. Juggling between academic pressures, extra-curricular activities, personal development activities, and family expectations. However, because of these pressures or challenges, our true strength emerges. Some people seem to quickly bounce back from failures and challenges while others find it to be difficult. But if a person manages to overcome these setbacks, then the person will come back stronger than before. This article dives into tips on managing pressure and how to overcome challenges.

How Does Struggle Turn into Strength?

Struggling and challenges are not always a bad thing. It all depends on how you turn them into your strength and adapt to the challenges. (The Enlightenment Journey, n.d.)Things will be better if you can:

  1. Understanding the Struggle

By understanding the struggle, you can identify the source and understand how things happen. This will develop resilience and it is an ability to bounce back from setbacks, and to thrive in facing challenges. Struggle can be in the form of academic, emotional, social, or even personal. Awareness allows us to confront the issue head-on rather than ignoring or avoiding the issue. It is an important step so that you can develop a plan for addressing the issue.

  1. Accept with a Positive Mind

Positivity is key to a happy life. It is one of the most important keys when it comes to overcoming challenges and struggles. Our thoughts have a powerful impact on our emotions and actions.  After recognizing the challenges, it is important to accept without self-judgment. This will help with processing emotions in understanding the depth of the issue. Acceptance prevents denial and helps in dealing with emotions constructively, laying the groundwork for resilience.

  1. Seek Support and Resources

Seeking and building a supportive network of support such as friends, family, advisors, and colleagues is important in finding strength in times of hardship. Surrounding yourself with individuals who uplift, encourage, care and support can provide us the strength and resilience needed to overcome any challenge. Dealing with emotions alone can lead to suicide, self-harm, and self-judgement which is bad for mental health.

  1. Adapt and Implement Strategies

Adapting to difficulties and implementing strategies is one of the ways to overcome setbacks including adapting to behaviors, thoughts, and actions to better manage or resolve the issue. By adapting strategies it will improve resilience and foster a proactive mindset, helping the individuals to tackle similar challenges more effectively in the future.

  1. Celebrating Growth

Celebrating little successes in life is necessary when it comes to living a positive life, appreciating little things will help to navigate through life’s challenges and hardships. For every setback that we have to bounce back and every obstacle that we overcome, we learn from the obstacles and then develop resilience and strength. This will also mark the moment that you have become stronger than before.


Life’s pressures, academic demands, extracurriculars, personal growth, and family expectations, can be overwhelming, especially for young people. However, these struggles are not just obstacles but opportunities for growth and strength. Understanding and accepting challenges with a positive mindset allows us to confront issues constructively. By seeking support, adapting strategies, and celebrating small victories, we turn setbacks into stepping stones for resilience.

Struggles teach us perseverance and adaptability, fostering a proactive approach to problem-solving. Each challenge faced and overcome adds to our inner strength, preparing us for future difficulties. Embracing hardships rather than avoiding them helps us discover our fullest potential.
